Dentist facing medical malpractice lawsuit

Friday August 8, 2014

When most people hear about medical malpractice cases in Connecticut, they may automatically assume it is against a doctor or hospital. While that is true for the most part, dentists can also face such cases. A dentist in another state has been named as a defendant in a medical malpractice suit.

The plaintiff alleges that she went to the dentist to have a crown placed on her tooth. The dentist allegedly did not place the crown properly, which caused her great pain. She returned to the dentist numerous times about the pain she was in, but she alleges that the dentist did not properly diagnose the misplaced crown. She claims that the misplaced crown and repeated misdiagnosis was only corrected after she went to another dentist.

She is suing the dentist for several civil claims, including improper installation of the crown, improper diagnosis and failing to remove the crown that was misplaced and replace it with a new one. The plaintiff is seeking an undisclosed amount of money for her pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish and medical expenses.

Medical malpractice cases, including a failure to diagnose by a dentist, seek to hold medical professionals and entities responsible for not meeting the level of the accepted standard of care. Not all medical malpractice cases involve a patient’s serious injury or death. Some cases could be avoided if the physician or dentist simply took the time to diagnose a patient’s condition properly.

Attorneys who are experienced in personal injury cases work diligently to try to get compensation for their clients who have suffered because of medical malpractice.
