NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT (October 20th, 2026) – A lawsuit involving the death of a landscaper at the Yale University Golf Course is scheduled to proceed to trial in October 2027. Kennedy, Johnson, Schwab & Roberge, P.C., including partner Patrick Kennedy, is representing the family in the personal injury and wrongful death litigation.

Lawsuit Follows Fatal Incident at Yale Golf Course

In August 2025, landscaper Luis Alberto Morocho Marcatoma died after being electrocuted while working near the Yale Golf Course in New Haven. The lawsuit filed by his family alleges negligence and carelessness related to conditions at the property.

Recent reporting has also highlighted concerns from residents who said they had previously reported hazardous trees and problems involving power lines along Conrad Drive, the road leading to the golf course.

“Well before Luis died, Yale received specific complaints from neighbors on Conrad Drive about trees on Yale’s property failing and the lack of appropriate maintenance procedures. The neighbors specifically warned of this danger and asked Yale to prune and remove dangerous trees. Yale had the trees assessed and priced, and then inexplicably decided not to go forward with that work. That was part of a broader pattern of neglect at the golf course and on Yale’s property that went on for years, and it extended right to the entrance drive where Luis was working that day. We believe that had Yale simply followed through on what it already knew needed to be done, Luis Morocho Marcatoma would be alive today,” said Patrick Kennedy.

Kennedy continued: “A property owner that invites workers onto its grounds has a responsibility to keep those grounds reasonably safe. Luis went to work that day to provide for his family and never came home.”
