More Than Four Decades of Excellence in Advocacy
John began practicing law in 1978 after earning his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law, graduating with honors. In 1988, he founded Kennedy & Johnson with David Johnson, establishing the foundation for what would become Kennedy, Johnson, Schwab & Roberge, P.C.
Throughout his career, John has focused on complex personal injury, medical malpractice, automobile accident, premises liability, and product liability cases. Even after nearly five decades of practicing law, he continues to find his greatest professional fulfillment in advocating for clients before juries.
His experience extends beyond the courtroom. John has also represented clients through negotiation, mediation, and arbitration and is frequently selected to serve as a mediator and arbitrator in personal injury and medical malpractice matters.
Leadership in the Connecticut Legal Community
John’s influence extends well beyond his individual cases. He has held leadership positions in several prominent legal organizations, including serving as President of the New Haven County Bar Association from 1991 to 1992 and President of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association from 2011 to 2012.
He has also dedicated significant time to educating fellow attorneys. John has lectured through the Connecticut Bar Association, Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, and New Haven County Bar Association and has served as co-chair of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association’s Continuing Legal Education Committee.
His professional leadership and commitment to advancing the practice of law reflect the qualities recognized by the New Haven County Bar Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
A Continuing Commitment to Service and Justice
John’s career has been recognized by numerous organizations throughout the legal profession. His honors include the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association Lifetime Achievement Award, repeated Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year” selections in New Haven, recognition by Super Lawyers, and fellowships in the American College of Trial Lawyers and International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
Yet, for John, the practice of law has always centered on more than professional recognition. His commitment has been to understand the law, preparing thoroughly, and standing beside people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
