Connecticut man dies in fatal motorcycle accident

Wednesday June 12, 2013

As the temperature warms up, people are opting to ride their motorcycles in the beautiful weather. But with more bikers on the road, more caution may be necessary. Motorcycles are a fun and enjoyable way to get around, but with much less protection than enclosed vehicles, they can be very dangerous when drivers are not paying full attention. A fatal motorcycle accident occurred on a recent afternoon in Hartford, Connecticut when a motorcyclist collided with the side of a taxi.

Police and witnesses report that the taxi was attempting a U-turn when it slammed into the motorcycle. Witnesses state that the motorcycle did not appear to be speeding, and the biker had on his helmet. The accident is still undergoing investigation, and all possible causes are being considered.

Witnesses claim that due to the forceful impact of the collision, the motorcyclist was thrown over his handlebars, crashed through the side window and landed in the backseat of the taxi. Debris from the bike scattered and nearly hit pedestrians. The biker is said to have died in the taxi, and he was pronounced dead on arrival when he reached the hospital. The taxi driver was taken to the hospital with chest injuries but is expected to make a recovery.

A motorcycle accident can result in severe injuries, and sometimes these injuries can be fatal. In Connecticut, if the investigation supports the preliminary indication that the taxi driver either negligently caused or substantially contributed to the accident, the family of the biker is entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. A successful lawsuit could potentially help the family with their financial burdens after their loss.
