Driving always comes with inherent dangers, but many of those dangers lurk after dark when visibility is worse. This may be the case with a Connecticut car crash that occurred just before 4 a.m. on a Sunday in late July. Bloomfield police are still investigating the incident, which caused serious injuries to two young men and also hurt a 50-year-old woman. Details are scarce about how the accident occurred.
Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident and found the 19-year-old driver of one of the vehicles unconscious at the scene with heavy bleeding from his head. He reportedly suffered brain damage, a broken neck and a broken leg in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital. Another 19-year-old man at the scene was taken to the hospital for facial bone fractures, a broken neck and injuries to the chest and arm. The woman, who was driving the other car, was treated at a hospital for a broken arm and chest pains.
The cars involved were both Honda Accords, and both sustained heavy damage. The woman’s car was facing north in the northbound lane. The young man’s Honda straddled the road and the shoulder by the west curb. It is not reported how the vehicles collided or what factors may have been involved in the crash.
It is possible that the investigation will result in one of the drivers being cited or even charged. If that happens, the innocent parties who were injured in the car crash may wish to pursue personal injury claims against that driver. Under Connecticut law, a person who suffers serious injuries due to the negligent actions of another may be able to seek compensation for medical bills and other expenses. Any damages awarded may ease financial hardships resulting from the accident as well as help the victims move on emotionally as they work on their physical recovery.
