Medical malpractice suit pays man $4.25 million

Friday July 17, 2015

A man from Wallingford started a medical malpractice suit after a surgical procedure. He has suffered from nerve damage that is permanent, impacting his left shoulder. The surgery happened back in 2008, but the lawsuit just concluded and the man was given $4.25 million as a result.

The man is 58 years old, and his case was heard by the Superior Court jury that is located over in New Haven.

The surgery was done to help the man with a mass that had developed in his neck. Doctors operated on it, but an investigation after the fact showed that they never should have carried out the operation. The mass wasn’t a tumor or anything of that nature, but just a mild Bartonellosis bacterial infection—something that is often referred to as cat scratch disease.

Since the doctors should not have operated to begin with, and because doing so gave the man a condition he is going to have to live with for the rest of his life, the jury ruled in his favor.

The operation happened over at the MidState Medical Center. The lawsuit itself was aimed at one of the doctors who works at that center, though the specific individual was not named in news reports.

When a medical procedure in Connecticut causes damage that will never heal, you may have a right to be compensated for the pain and suffering you’ll deal with and for the way it changes your life. This is especially true if it turns out that the procedure wasn’t necessary to begin with, perhaps as the result of an incorrect diagnosis.
