Mechanic takes rare Ferrari for ride, crashes

Thursday June 26, 2014

A technician for a Connecticut luxury car dealership is likely in hot water after crashing a customer’s Enzo Ferrari. The rare sports car, which can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, is worth a reported $1 million.

The accident occurred on Interstate 95 in Stamford on Monday and drew plenty of attention because of the prestigious car involved. The owner of the car is a wealth New Jersey man who made his millions in the mattress industry.

According to police, a technician with Miller Motorcars in Greenwich was driving the car when he crashed into an entrance ramp on the interstate, causing serious damage to the vehicle, which travels up 217 miles per hour.

Police reported that the car began to fishtail and then struck a wall before sliding across three lanes of traffic.

At this point, the dealership has not commented on the accident and it has not been reported whether the technician had permission to take the expensive car on a joy ride.

Unless the technician had permission to drive the car and something seriously malfunctioned out of the technician’s control, it is likely that the dealership could be responsible for the damages.

Though the repairs will be costly, the dealership is lucky that no one else was injured in the crash or it could have also been liable for damages in a personal injury lawsuit.

While expensive sports cars are fun to look at and probably even more fun to drive, accidents involving them are often serious or deadly. When a car has the ability of traveling more than 200 mph, it can definitely pose a threat to the public if it is driven negligently.
