Most families in New Haven, Connecticut, would feel hopeless if they discovered that one of their loved ones suffered a traumatic brain injury. This is understandable, considering that brain injury may cause permanent disability or death. However, one family remains strong after a 16-year-old boy suffered brain injury in a hit-and-run accident.
The car accident happened near the victim’s home in California. The teenager suffered several injuries, ranging from a skull fracture to a torn aorta to a traumatic brain injury. His parents were horrified after the doctors said that his chance of survival was slim. However, the family never lost hope. They tried untested and unconventional treatments that could improve the victim’s condition, including omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil. The family then believed that fish oil improved the teen’s condition.
Reportedly, the brain injury victim shows improvement after receiving high doses of omega -3 fatty acids. The 16-year-old boy emerged from his coma and started to speak. As the teen continued to receive fish oil, he was transferred to a rehabilitation hospital nine weeks after the accident. His parents reported that his condition progresses day-by-day.
Experts state that the brain’s cell wall is made of omega-3 fatty acids. The founder of the Brain Health Education and Research Institute said that by supplementing a patient with substantial doses of omega-3 fatty acids, the brain may repair on its own.
While searching for the definite cure to brain injury may still have a long way to go, it is nice to know there may be medical remedies to help brain injury victims gradually recover. There are also legal remedies available that could relieve families from the economic and emotional damages imposed by a brain injury-related accident.
