In Connecticut, we all know the dangers of drunk driving. There are ad campaigns everywhere discouraging people from driving while intoxicated and reminding them of the potential consequences. Despite that, some drivers still make the poor decision to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol, endangering themselves and others.
On Tuesday, a suspected drunk driver caused two accidents at an intersection in Norwalk. Police say the driver first crashed into a car that was stopped at a red light, forcing it to collide with the vehicle in front of it. He then backed up his pickup truck, crashing into a car that was waiting behind him. The suspected drunk driver drove away before police arrived.
Police eventually found the man in the driveway of his home still sitting in his truck. Although the car was off, the keys were still in the ignition, so police were able to charge him with DUI. Officers said he exhibited clear signs of intoxication. He is set to appear in court next week.
Although it appears as though no one was injured in this series of crashes, few drunk driving accidents end so well. Many people suffer serious injuries at the hands of drunk drivers, and in this case, injuries like whiplash or back pain that aren’t always immediately apparent may still surface. For those who are injured by a drunk driver, they should know that they have legal rights should they wish to hold a negligent driver accountable. An experienced personal injury attorney can help you get started.
