Doctor negligence: physicians overlooking back pain guidelines

Most residents in New Haven, Connecticut, respect local doctors and other medical professionals. Residents are positive that when they or their family member develop an illness, the medical professional is sure to provide them with the best possible health care.

Researchers from Harvard Medical School have discovered that numerous physicians are not following the well-validated published guidelines for the proper management of back pain. As a result, health care costs are rising but little progress has been made in quality care.

Researchers also found that drug use for back pain has increased from 19.3 percent to 29.1 percent from 1999 and 2000. Meanwhile, referrals for physical therapy remained the same while the use of imaging tests, such as computed tomography scans and magnetic resonance imaging, rose from 7.2 percent to 11.3 percent.

Readers in New Haven, Connecticut, should take note that many physicians are committing medical malpractice when it comes to treating back problems. Physicians, who are supposed to know better, are allegedly overlooking symptoms that may potentially become a serious health hazard. It is important to take note that a spinal cord injury has numerous complications and a large portion of those may result in debilitating and expensive injuries.
