There is perhaps nothing quite as frightening as a wrong way car crash. Many of them seem to occur on highways in the early morning hours, in Connecticut and elsewhere. Two drivers meet in a head on collision, and one of them is typically headed the wrong way on an Interstate or other roadway. Just such a fatal accident occurred recently in West Hartford on Interstate 84.
The crash occurred early on the last Sunday morning of May at just about 1:30 a.m. The pickup and a car collided head on in the roadway. The car was traveling in the wrong direction. Tragically, the 20-year-old pickup driver lost his life in the collision, and the 46-year-old wrong way driver was critically injured. Both were said to be Connecticut residents.
Connecticut State Police were investigating the crash. They have asked for anyone with information regarding the accident to contact them. The roadway was shut to traffic for an unspecified length of time following the collision to give law enforcement personnel time to examine the crash scene and arrange for the Interstate to be cleared.
For the young man in the pickup, his life has ended for apparently doing little more than traveling the right way on I-84 at the wrong time. His family must now deal with the inevitable consequences that typically accompany a fatal accident. As they do so, they will surely follow the progress of the official investigation as they struggle to come to terms with the tragedy. Should they choose to do so, they will have the opportunity to turn to the Connecticut civil court system to seek reimbursement of the financial damages sustained as a result of the crash.
