Connecticut pedestrian’s fatal accident results in arrest

Wednesday December 11, 2013

Crosswalks are intended to be the safest way for a pedestrian to cross a street. One waits for the appropriate signal to cross and then safely crosses to the other side. This is what is supposed to happen. However, last December, this is not what happened. Recently, a bus driver was arrested and charged in connection with a fatal accident that left a Connecticut pedestrian dead.

According to reports, the victim was crossing the street in a crosswalk when the driver in question hit her. Even though the driver stated that he was unable to see the victim, police say that he should have made sure he could see without interference. As a result, the driver has now been charged in her death.

Professional drivers have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their passengers and those around them. When safety is not a key element, the result is often unfortunate, if not fatal. The evidence suggests that the driver should have made the appropriate adjustments to avoid the accident.

The bus driver deemed responsible for this accident is now facing criminal charges relating to this woman’s death. The victim’s family, in addition to losing a loved one, has most likely also incurred numerous expenses and losses related to this fatal accident. Due to the bus driver’s alleged negligence in this fatal accident, the family of the victim may decide to file a wrongful death claim in a Connecticut civil court. This type of legal proceeding is separate from the criminal charges and is based upon proof that the driver’s negligence was the proximate cause of the collision and fatality that resulted.
