Connecticut man enters no contest plea after fatal accident

Tuesday November 26, 2013

There is a large percentage of drivers who have disobeyed the speed limit. At times, the speeding is a result of willful disobedience while at others it is a result of ignorance. Regardless of the reason, speeding can place many lives in jeopardy. One fatal accident in Connecticut, believed to be partially caused by speed, resulted in the death of two people.

The accident occurred in the early morning hours in Feb. 2012. According to police reports, a 46-year-old male was allegedly driving his pickup over 70 miles per hour when he rear-ended a sedan carrying a 57-year-old male and a 34-year-old female. The impact caused the driver of the sedan to lose control of the vehicle before it struck an embankment and a tree.

Two of the sedan’s occupants died as a result. Police claim the driver of the pickup left the scene. He has since been charged with manslaughter and evading responsibility. He has recently pleaded no contest to the charges against him and will be sentenced in Jan. 2014.

Due to the accused’s alleged negligence, two families are now facing life without their loved ones as a result of the fatal accident. While emotionally devastating, their deaths will also likely have a financial impact on their families. In addition to funeral expenses, their families may also have to cope with loss of income, among other damages. To help with these expenses, the families have the option of filing a wrongful death case in a Connecticut civil court. A ruling in their favor could provide them with monetary damages to help offset the financial ramifications of the accident.
