Common causes of trucking accidents

Thursday January 8, 2015

In our last post, we discussed how highway fatalities involving large trucks such as semis and tractor trailers have been on the rise for the past four years while motor vehicle accident fatalities overall have fallen.

We also discussed how a serious trucking accident can have catastrophic results for the victims involved as well as their families. Following a serious trucking accident, victims are often forced to seek compensation from the insurance providers that represent trucking companies, which can be a difficult, uphill battle.

Our firm has been assisting victims of trucking accidents for years. We fight fiercely to get our clients the compensation they deserve, which requires us to carefully examine how and why the accident occurred in the first place.

In our experience, we have learned that many trucking accidents are the result of driver errors or truck-maintenance neglect such as:

  • Driver fatigue
  • Aggressive driving
  • Unsafe driving for the road conditions
  • Impaired driving
  • Inadequate training and supervision
  • Vehicle maintenance problems or equipment malfunction
  • Overloaded trucks and loads

If driver negligence or truck-maintenance problems like the ones listed above were responsible for a serious trucking accident, the victims may be able to pursue damages from the trucking company, driver and other liable third parties. However, time is of the essence.

As soon as a serious trucking accident occurs, the trucking company’s insurance company will begin an investigation. It’s important for victims to make sure a private investigation is completed on their behalf as well so that evidence isn’t lost.
