Car crash in Connecticut leaves 1 dead

Tuesday December 24, 2013

An unidentified 40-year-old man is dead following a collision involving a dump truck, according to local law enforcement authorities. The fatal car crash closed down the Connecticut highway where it took place for several hours on Nov. 28. Police are still trying to determine how the crash happened, and have yet to file any charges in association with the case.

Local police have reported that the dump truck was traveling northbound on Route 5 when a vehicle driven by the victim apparently struck the dump truck head-on. The force of the collision propelled the car over the dump truck and a minivan that was directly behind the truck on the road. The car went on to strike a utility pole.

The man driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. It is unclear whether the driver of the dump truck was injured in the accident, though the minivan and its driver were unharmed. Police are still investigating the particulars of the accident and have yet to speculate as to whether alcohol or unsafe speeds were factors in the crash.

It is too early in the ongoing investigation to guess at how this case will be resolved. If the dump truck driver was injured in the car crash, which seems likely considering the severity of the accident, and the driver of the car is found culpable for causing the accident, the truck driver may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit against the deceased driver’s estate. Such a filing would be overseen by a Connecticut civil court.
