Bridgeport detective hurt when car ran red light

Tuesday March 19, 2013

In Bridgeport, when we get in our cars, we do our best to drive safely, ensuring that we protect ourselves and others on the road. We don’t text and drive, we don’t get behind the wheel after we’ve been drinking and we make sure to obey traffic signals. Unfortunately, however, we cannot control other drivers, and when a driver is distracted or disobeys traffic laws, it can put others in serious danger.

Over the weekend, a Bridgeport police detective experienced firsthand the damage that a negligent driver can cause. The detective was driving through the intersection of Washington Avenue and James Street when another motorist ran a red light and hit him.

According to a witness, the driver who ran the red light drove around a stopped vehicle and proceeded through the intersection. The detective sustained back and neck injuries in the car accident and needed to be hospitalized.

Although the negligent driver in this situation was cited by police, the fine he will likely have to pay does not make up for the damage he caused when he ran that red light. The police detective — who did nothing wrong — is now facing injuries and the expensive medical bills that come with them. Fortunately, Connecticut personal injury laws allow victims of car accidents to seek compensation from a negligent driver. Those who have been injured in a car accident and are considering a personal injury lawsuit may find it helpful to work with an attorney experienced in personal injury law.
