Alleged drunk driver in fatal car crash faces additional charges

All motorists in New Haven, Connecticut, should observe traffic rules and exercise care when driving. Although driving sober is risky enough, other drivers fail to recognize the risks of driving under the influence.

Four months after a fatal car crash claimed the life of 36-year-old New Britain, Connecticut, pedestrian. The suspected drunk driver is now facing additional charges related to the crash. After an investigation, the local police filed charges of second-degree vehicular manslaughter and evading responsibility against the 60-year-old female driver.

According to police, the woman was driving under the influence last December when she hit the victim. The victim was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver stayed at the scene of the crash at first, but ultimately left before the arrival of the police. The officers located her in her residence and charged her with operating under the influence. She remains free on a $50,000 bond.

Motorists should keep in mind that driving privileges come with responsibilities. Drunk driving, speeding, failure to yield, hit-and-run and inattention can increase the risks car accidents. Unfortunately, the consequences of a car accident can be very severe.

The death of a loved one from an avoidable accident is devastating. Aside from emotional pain and suffering, accidental injuries or deaths come with costly repercussions, including lost wages, medical expenses and even funeral expenses.
