After an accident in a school zone

Tuesday August 26, 2014

It’s that time of year again: Kids of all ages are returning to school in Connecticut and the rest of the country. What that means is that drivers need to be ready to share the roads with school buses and students who are walking or biking to school.

While the law requires drivers to slow down and use caution in school zones, accidents involving innocent children still happen each school year. Distracted driving is one of the major causes of accidents occurring within school zones.

Following a bus, bicycle or pedestrian accident involving a child, parents are often filled with grief and left wondering where to turn. The accident can result in expensive medical bills and time off of work, not to mention the physical and emotional suffering that often takes place.

Luckily, accident victims and their families are often entitled to damage awards from the drivers who were are fault. Our firm has been representing accident victims and their families for more than 25 years and we know how to take the reins so that the accident victim and his or her family can focus on recovery.

Insurance companies for the responsible driver may try to contact the victim’s parents right away offering a settlement, but it’s important to meet with a lawyer before accepting a settlement offer or even talking with the insurance company.

All too often, insurance companies make unfair settlement offers to families who don’t know any better. After an accident, it’s important to act right away so that evidence can be collected and a claim can be filed, if necessary.
