Investigation into Spyder fires could lead to trike recall

Most people who ride motorcycles on a regular basis are aware that they are at a higher risk of being involved in a motor vehicle accident than other types of vehicles. The vehicles that share the road with motorcycles are not the only reasons that motorcycle accidents happen however. Sometimes they occur as a result of defects with parts of the motorcycle. This concern has prompted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to investigate a motorcycle type vehicle.

The investigation is into Can-Am Spyder reverse trikes. The catalyst for the investigation of the vehicle is two fires that occurred. One affected a 2011 Spyder RT and the other a 2013 Spyder RT. Both fires, the reason for which is currently unknown, occurred last month.

Depending on what the NHTSA uncovers in its investigation it is possible that a recall of the vehicles could be issued. Recalls of Spyders are nothing new. In the course of the last year and a half, or so, three safety recalls have been issued by the owner of Cam-Am, BRP.

Consumers assume that when used as intended the product they purchase will not inflict harm upon them. A recall of a dangerous or defective product could help to decrease the number of injuries that occur. When injuries do occur the injured individuals might decide to seek compensation for their injuries from the responsible parties. If anyone was injured in either of the fires it is possible that such a lawsuit could be filed against BRP.
