Two people hospitalized after accident in Connecticut

On Behalf of | Jun 27, 2014 | Car Accidents

Car accidents have become an increasing problem on U.S. roads in the last several years. Various factors can possibly cause a car accident. One of the leading causes of a car accident is distracted driving. Distracted driving is a situation where the driver gets distracted by any number of things and stops paying attention to the road ahead and causes an accident. Drunk driving and texting while driving are forms of distracted driving.

Recently, a motorcycle collided with a car on Route 140 in Ellington. The accident caused the two motorcyclists to be injured and they were taken to the hospital. The car driver was apparently unharmed in the accident. Police stated that the motorcycle, which was carrying a 73-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman, rear-ended the car and the motorcycle fell on its side. Although the motorcyclists were injured, their injuries were not fatal.

Connecticut imposes severe penalties on a person who is responsible for a car accident. Under Connecticut law, a driver involved in a car accident is required to exit his vehicle at the accident scene. Failing to do so may cause the person to face an additional charge for hit and run. Various factors determining penalties imposed on the driver may include prior history and blood alcohol content level.

Penalties in the case of a driver involved in car accident may range from revocation or suspension of their driver’s license to heavy fines to imprisonment. Car insurance premiums are also likely to go up. Additionally, in a small community, that type of situation may also lead to the person’s reputation being damaged. The ability to obtain compensation from the driver will be decided upon by the court. The compensation can be helpful in covering accident-related expenses and thus make the accident-victim’s financial challenges less daunting.
