Man causes car crash in Connecticut, killing 2 children

On Behalf of | Nov 22, 2013 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Automobile accidents cause injury and death in Connecticut and across the country on a daily basis. Too often, injuries and deaths in car accidents are caused by reckless driving.

Connecticut Police said a man accused in a crash that killed two children had a blood alcohol level that was more than three times the legal limit. The 29-year-old man was arrested after police said he hit the back of a vehicle that was stopped at a red light, killing an 8-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl.

The children’s parents and 12-year-old brother were seriously injured in the motor vehicle accident.

Police said the 29-year-old man fled from the scene and was found at his home. According to investigators, the man is a Mexican citizen and had identification cards with various different names on them when he was arrested.

When the man was arrested after the accident, he was brought up on three charges. The charges were reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and evading responsibility. However, he was brought back to court recently and the charges were changed. The reckless driving charge was dropped and new charges were added, including three counts of assault with a motor vehicle, operating under the influence and two counts of second-degree manslaughter. The man is being held in jail on $1 million bond.

When any reckless act by a driver causes personal injury, death or property damage, the harmed party has a right to be compensated for their losses, pain and suffering. Many types of general damages may be awarded, including compensation for medical bills, loss of income and wrongful death. To determine where fault lies, a legal professional should organize a comprehensive investigation into the accident and then advise the best course of legal action to take.
