Connecticut woman charged after fatal motorcycle accident

Tuesday October 1, 2013

Every driver has likely experienced the frustration of getting stuck behind another vehicle that he or she feels is driving too slowly. For some drivers, the temptation to drive too closely to the driver who is allegedly driving too slowly is intense. However, it is a temptation that should be ignored. It is unlikely to have any effect while at the same time, it is likely to cause a possibly fatal accident. One woman in Connecticut has been accused of following too closely in an incident that resulted in a fatal motorcycle accident.

In late September, a vehicle driven by a 34-year-old female was traveling behind a motorcycle driven by a 56-year-old man. According to police reports, the woman struck the motorcycle. The impact caused a serious accident.

The female driver was uninjured. However, the motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital for treatment of severe injuries. Unfortunately, the man passed away the next day from injuries sustained in the accident. The woman has since been charged with drunk driving as well as following too closely.

While the criminal court can take action that could deter the woman from repeating the actions that are suspected of causing the accident, the family of the deceased man are likely left wondering how they will afford funeral expenses and medical bills in addition to coping with the loss of the man’s income. In order to seek some relief for these financial burdens, the man’s family has the option of filing a wrongful death case against the woman in a Connecticut civil court. If it can be proved that the driver’s negligence caused the motorcycle accident, they could receive compensation for financial issues arising from the man’s death.
