Early morning car crash kills 2 in Connecticut

Saturday July 27, 2013

A teen joyride turned tragic earlier this month when a fatal accident claimed the lives of two young men and left a third in hospital. Connecticut police are still investigating the car crash that took place in East Hartford. No criminal charges have yet been filed in connection with this accident.

Details surrounding the particulars of the accident are sketchy so far. Around 4:15 a.m., police responded to calls that a vehicle had crashed on the front lawn of a residential home. When police and medical authorities arrived, they found two of the passengers unresponsive.

An 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, later identified as brothers, were both declared dead at the scene by medical personnel. A third passenger, a 20-year-old man, was badly injured and was rushed to a local hospital where his condition is said to be unknown, though his injuries were very serious. The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man, appeared to be uninjured when examined at the scene of the accident, but was remanded to medical care as a precautionary measure. Police continue to investigate the details of the incident.

With so little information available about the particulars of the car crash it is difficult to ascertain where the fault will lie and whether criminal charges will be pressed. Police have not commented on the possibility that high speed or alcohol may have been involved. However, Connecticut state law will still allow the injured passenger and the families of the deceased passengers to file personal injury and wrongful death suits in a civil court against the driver.
