Drunk driver allegedly injured bicyclist in car accident

There are a number of studies that may prove that drunk driving can lead to accidents on the road. In spite of this, some drivers fail to take this fact seriously and continue to endanger other people on the road including New Haven, Connecticut residents.

Recently in Connecticut, a 49-year-old man sustained numerous injuries in a hit-and-run accident. According to sources, the man was riding his bicycle and was on his way home when he was struck by a vehicle. The car accident victim was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. It was stated that the victim's injuries were non-life-threatening.

Reports stated that after the crash, the woman, 45, who hit the bicyclist, paused, took a U-turn and drove away from the scene. Fortunately, the authorities tracked her down and discovered damage to her vehicle. As a result, the woman is facing criminal charges for allegedly hitting the bicyclists and fleeing from the scene of the crash. She was also charged with driving under the influence. The car accident is still under investigation.

Bicyclists and motorists share the same road. They also follow the same traffic rules, but drivers must be more attentive in the presence of bicyclists. The vulnerability of bicyclists in the event of crash is evident, considering they have minimal protection compared with people in motor vehicles. A collision between a car and a bicycle may have very severe consequences, such as injuries or death. Additionally, a car accident that occurs as a result of drunk driving can be considered negligence.

Driver's negligence that contributes to car accident injuries or death is terrible for the victim or victims. Those who are injured in a Connecticut car accident can recover compensation through a personal injury lawsuit. Taking legal action against the negligent party may compensate the victim for medical expenses, lost income and other accident-related expenses.
