Siblings file medical malpractice lawsuit after father died

On Behalf of | Jun 28, 2013 | Medical Malpractice

Anesthesiology is one of the most extensively trained professions in the medical world. Many New Haven residents have personally been under the care of an anesthesiologist at some point in their life. For the most part, an anesthesiologist is responsible for giving anesthesia to a patients as well as performing several preoperative duties. This career choice also comes with a zero tolerance for negligence. One mistake can prove fatal to a patient. A pair of siblings recently lost their 60-year-old father after an anesthesiologist gave him the wrong medicine.

When they discovered the reasoning behind their father’s death, the two children filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the hospital. The lawsuit claims the hospital was negligent in its care of the 60-year-old. The incident started when the dad went into the emergency room for kidney issues. When he was given anesthesia, the anesthesiologist gave him a dosage of a non- directed medicine that was 10 times more potent than what he needed. A few days after the surgery, the father died as a result of the anesthesia error. His children are now demanding in excess of $10,000 for the wrongful death of their father.

With every job, people make mistakes. Whether it is forgetting someone’s fast food order or shipping the wrong size of shoes, mistakes happen at work but when people’s lives are on the line, mistakes cannot be tolerated. Medical professionals are expected to operate to the best of their abilities. When they are negligent and it results in the death of a patient, family members of the victims may seek damages for the wrongful death of their loved one.

New Haven residents that have lost a loved one from a medical malpractice disaster may find that they are eligible for compensation. An attorney may provide additional information and advice to those in need.
