Hit and run driver kills Connecticut pedestrian

Crossing the street is something many New Haven residents do on a daily basis. Crosswalks and sidewalks are generally safe for pedestrians to walk across but they cannot fully protect someone from a negligent driver. In 2010, 4,280 Americans lost their lives from auto-pedestrian accidents and countless more were seriously injured. Recently a Connecticut man lost his life after crossing the street.

A 59-year-old man was killed after a driver hit him while he was crossing the street. The driver of the vehicle continued on, failing to stop at the scene of the accident. According to witnesses the driver was driving a dark colored SUV and just kept going without rendering aid to the victim. In Connecticut, it is a crime to flee the scene of an accident. Police are continuing to search for the driver involved with the fatal hit and run accident.

The number one cause of car accidents in America is human error. Between inattentive driving to driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, negligent driving comes with consequences. Drivers who are guilty of any form of negligence may face legally liability for their actions. All drivers are expected to follow the state traffic rules and regulations.
