Suspect surrenders in pedestrian fatal accident case

On Behalf of | May 13, 2013 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

When a tragic event takes place and lives are lost, the surviving friends and family often struggle to cope with their loss. This can be especially true in fatal accident cases in which justice is not immediately served. One Connecticut family may feel a measure of relief upon hearing news that the man suspected of striking and killing a couple has turned himself in to police.

The 31-year-old driver is expected to face charges of reckless driving and manslaughter for his role in the death of a husband and wife. Local police assert that the couple was walking along the shoulder of a snowy roadway in February with their daughter and another family member when they were struck by a vehicle. It is unclear why an arrest was not made sooner.

Although she suffered injuries in the crash, the 21-year-old daughter was able to survive the incident. Now just a few months removed from the tragic and traumatic loss of both of her parents, she and the remainder of the family are likely still reeling from their loss. It is hoped that the criminal charges against the driver lead to a just outcome in the matter, and that the family is able to find a measure of closure.

In many cases, Connecticut families who lose loved ones due to the negligence of others choose to move forward with a wrongful death suit against the responsible party. Doing so can help them to recover some of the financial losses associated with the fatal accident. In addition, a successful civil case can also serve as an additional measure of justice in the matter.
