Staying safe on your motorcycle this spring

As temperatures start to warm up in Connecticut, some people have switched over to using their motorcycles for transportation. For many, there is no better way to embrace springtime than with a cruise on a motorcycle. However, as most riders know, safety is of the utmost importance when operating a motorcycle, so we've compiled a few tips from a recent news article to help our readers make sure they are ready to ride.

First and foremost, it is important to make sure that your motorcycle is in good shape. Have your bike looked over by professionals to ensure that your brakes, batteries, cables, tires and other important parts of the motorcycle are in good shape.

Next, you need to know how to drive a motorcycle. It is important that everyone who rides a motorcycle has taken a basic course. Borrowing a friend's bike with no lessons -- even if you're just going around the corner -- can lead to disaster if you don't know what you're doing.

Finally, know what to wear. Make sure your clothing and shoes are all appropriate for riding a motorcycle. Even in the warmer months, you should do your best to cover your skin with protective clothing in case of an accident, and always wear a helmet.

Although riders can take numerous steps to protect themselves from danger on the roads, there is little a motorcyclist can do to prevent other motorists from driving poorly. If an accident is caused by another driver, motorcyclists should know that there are ways to hold that driver accountable for his or her actions. An attorney can help explain the process of filing a personal injury lawsuit.
