Slew of weekend crashes leaves 4 dead in Connecticut

Wednesday April 10, 2013

Car accidents can happen at a moment’s notice, as many Connecticut residents know. Someone runs a red light and crashes into the side of your car, or a driver looks down to send a text and doesn’t see that traffic has slowed. No matter how they happen, it seems like we read about car accidents all the time. Unfortunately, this weekend proved especially deadly.

According to a report in the Norwich Bulletin, four people died in car accidents this weekend. While two were the result of single-vehicle crashes, the other two occurred in two-vehicle crashes — and one was a hit-and-run.

On Saturday morning, a 28-year-old woman from Waterbury was killed in a head-on collision. On Sunday, a serious motorcycle vs. car accident claimed the life of the motorcyclist in Bridgeport. According to police, the driver of the car fled the scene of the crash.

Serious car accidents like these happen more often that we would like. And while we can do our best to drive safely and without distraction, there is little we can do when someone else drives dangerously. However, if one of these people causes a serious crash that results in injuries to another person, the victim or his or her family should not be forced to pay for expensive medical bills, funeral expenses and other costs related to a fatal car accident.

For this reason, personal injury laws in Connecticut exist to protect victims of car accidents and their families. If a victim is harmed or killed by a negligent driver, an attorney can help explain how to go about seeking compensation through a personal injury or wrongful death claim.
