Bionic suit may help spinal cord injury victims walk again

Wednesday March 27, 2013

Many New Haven residents are familiar with the most recent Batman movie. In the movie the protagonist suffers from a broken back near the end. In order to stop the bad guy, Batman must find a way to walk again. In the span of a short time, Batman somehow rehabilitates himself by doing push-ups and ab workouts in order to walk again. What may seem like total fantasy may be a possibility some day. Recent developments in spinal cord injury research have given hope to many paraplegics to walk again with the development of bionic legs.

Our spine is one of the most important parts of the body. Typically a spinal cord injury can be very dangerous. Many victims have died or suffered life-long handicaps as a result of spinal cord injuries and some will spend the rest of their life in a wheel chair. But a recent medical development may grant spinal cord injury victims a chance to walk again. A new bionic suit may soon be available for consumers by next year. The only problem is the price tag.

One of the challenges with the bionic suit is making it affordable for the public. Many insurance companies are not likely to cover the price of the device. For victims that are injured due to someone else’s negligence, they may be eligible for compensation. And depending on the accident, one may be awarded enough money to either help pay or buy one of these new suits.

Seeking the help of an attorney may literally be the first step for any New Haven resident suffering a spinal cord injury to walk again. Compensation damages have helped many victims dramatically improve their lives.
