Teenager charged in fatal Connecticut car accident

On Behalf of | Dec 27, 2012 | Car Accidents

Connecticut residents are no strangers to traffic accidents. A car accident caused by a negligent driver may result in serious injuries and fatalities. In a recent incident, a teenager was charged with negligently causing the death of another person in a car crash. According to reports, the accident occurred a few months ago when a pickup truck collided with an SUV. The driver of the SUV was found dead at the scene.

On reaching the accident, the police found the pickup truck lying on its roof, and the victim’s SUV with substantial damage. According to officials, the victim’s vehicle was badly damaged on the driver’s side. The driver of the pickup truck, who is 19 years old, also sustained injuries and was transported to a medical center for treatment.

Both vehicles involved in the crash were removed from the scene. A thorough investigation into the probable causes of the accident revealed that the negligence of the pickup driver contributed to the death of the victim. It was further brought to light that the victim sustained multiple severe injuries on impact and died immediately.

A warrant for the arrest of the driver of the pickup truck was issued after the investigation was completed. The accused surrendered to authorities and a case is pending against him in court. The accused is charged with negligent homicide along with failure to drive to the right on a curve as well as not wearing a seat belt.

Any driver against whom negligence is proven in court may face severe penalties. These penalties can ease the psychological pain and suffering of the victim’s family, however, the family may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the negligent driver, which would hold the person financially accountable for the loss of their loved one as well.

A wrongful death claim may include compensation for economic and physical damage, loss of companionship, and payment of insurance claims. An experienced attorney may be helpful in calculating and pursuing a wrongful death claim properly in order to recover appropriate compensation.
