In a local accident, a car collided with an ambulance causing it to flip over yesterday afternoon. According to police, the ambulance was traveling west when a car, attempting to make a left turn hit the right side of the ambulance. The strength of the impact caused the Connecticut ambulance to rollover to its left side.
Passengers in ambulances are often at risk of further injury on their way to the hospital when involved in a car accident. Traveling at high-speeds, collisions can be dangerous, even fatal, especially when patients are already suffering a catastrophic injury.
After the accident, the ambulance driver and the passenger were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries at Hartford Hospital. The driver of the vehicle was also taken to the hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.
One witness said the crash was very loud and could be heard from far away. Crews rushed to the scene to clean up diesel that had leaked out of the ambulance. A gasoline leak could have led to an explosion which could have caused additional injury to passengers and bystanders.
Officials are still investigating the cause of this accident to determine the individuals and entities at fault. For victims of serious accident, an immediate and independent investigation can help determine who is responsible and also ensure that evidence is preserved. Victims of ambulance accidents may be able to collect significant compensation for their injuries.
In this case, the driver of the ambulance or the driver of the vehicle could be liable. Any hospital or entity responsible for the ambulance could also be liable for the accident, if negligence is determined to be a factor in the investigation process.
