Alex Rodriguez visits team doc he sued for medical malpractice

There is little doubt that some of our New Haven, Connecticut, readers are fans of the New York Yankees. As such, they are likely very familiar with the ongoing drama with player Alex Rodriguez. In a rather unique situation, Rodriguez recently had to see the Yankee's team doctor for a physical -- the same doctor he sued for medical malpractice in 2013.

The lawsuit went on for nine months, carrying over into last year. Rodriguez accused the doctor of hiding the results of a MRI that showed a torn labrum in the baseball player's left hip. Rodriguez said that the doctor performed his duties "carelessly, unskillfully, negligently and not in accordance with accepted standards."

Rodriguez had originally denied all accusations that he had been involved in the Biogenesis doping case, although he eventually confessed to doping. He has apologized to many involved in the scandal, but according to one source, he has not apologized to the doctor.

The lawsuit against the doctor was "discontinued" last July. The case was "withdrawn with prejudice." This means that Rodriguez cannot refile it.

Rodriguez is currently a witness for the U.S. government in the Biogenesis case -- which involves a case against his own cousin.

According to one attorney, the designated hitter "agreed to put all litigation behind him and started with a fresh slate with the Yankees."

Medical malpractice cases take an extensive amount of time and work to put together. Medical experts must be found and agree to testify, settlement proposals must be considered and the evidence must be clearly understood. Personal injury attorneys can help plaintiffs understand how the case will proceed and how strong a case they have against the doctor, medical staff or health care facility.
