Mother files birth injury lawsuit against doctor

At times, Connecticut residents would probably agree that childbirth can be a very risky experience for both the child and the mother. Medical advances have significantly reduced birth injuries in the United States, thanks to the professionalism of doctors and nurses. However, there are instances when a trained medical professional fails to do the job properly, and the result is that the child experiences long-term damages.

Recently, a mother filed a lawsuit against a doctor for causing injuries and bodily harm to her child. According to the birth injury lawsuit, the child suffered disabling injuries as a result of medical malpractice during the delivery. The mother stated that in 2011, she became pregnant with her second child. Her first child, a healthy baby girl, was delivered without any complications. The mother reported that she attended eight appointments between Dec. 2011 and June 2012.

On June 17, 2012, she experienced contractions and was admitted to the medical facility. A physician took over her care. Nonetheless, shortly afterward, she was given over to the care of another doctor. During this time period, she was checked by a number of resident doctors. As her labor progressed, doctors advised her that the baby needed to be delivered by Caesarean section.

The doctor who was in charge advised that he should perform a vacuum delivery. In the complaint, the mother stated that she was never informed of the dangers of a vacuum delivery. Her baby suffered as a result of the medical malpractice. Ultimately, the baby was born with shoulder dystocia and even several months after the birth, the baby's arm is still non-functional. The mother is now demanding compensation for the long-term physical injury to her child, as well as pain and suffering now and in the future.
