Driver crossed yellow line, caused crash in Middlebury

Imagine that you're driving home from work. It's a Monday, so you're more than ready to relax after a long day. Suddenly, however, a car headed in the opposite direction swerves into your lane. You barely have time to brace yourself when you're rattled by the forceful impact of the collision. When your car stops moving and you realize what has happened, you start to notice the pain.

Unfortunately, an elderly woman experienced a very similar scenario on Monday afternoon when she was driving west on Route 64 in Middlebury. A pickup truck that was heading east swerved over the yellow line and into the 81-year-old woman's path. She sustained serious injuries in the car accident, and firefighters were required to remove her from her mangled vehicle. She was taken by ambulance to Waterbury Hospital.

The elderly woman, however, was not the only victim of this accident. A vehicle that was traveling behind the truck had to swerve to avoid colliding with it. Instead, it crashed into the road's guardrail. The driver and a passenger described as a juvenile both sustained minor injuries.

Being injured in a serious car accident is a frightening experience. One minute you're on your way home from work, and the next you are in the hospital facing recovery time and expensive medical bills. In addition, your car was totaled. Anyone would be overwhelmed by this scenario. Fortunately, victims of car accidents have the option of filing a personal injury lawsuit against a negligent driver. A successful lawsuit can lead to compensation for medical expenses and other damages related to a car accident.
